The Wine
Woodlands not only received astounding top scores for its wines in 2016, but also ‘Best Winemaker’ and ‘Best Wine’ from critic Ray Jordan. Woodlands was set up by David and Heather Watson in 1973, making it one of the first five vineyards to be planted in Margaret River. The couple aimed to create wines that emulated the greats of Bordeaux and, if critical acclaim is anything to go by, they have succeeded. In 2010 they received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the industry. This red is another showstopper – a luxurious Cabernet led blend of premium grapes that have been hand picked from the original – now 40 year old – Woodlands Vineyard. Generously aged in French oak for 18 months, this richly complex triumph excels with steak or lamb.
