Puglia is a treasure trove of rich tasting reds that offer “undreamed-of character and potential” (Hugh Johnson). Our source for this top of the range wine from the superb Squinzano cru is the three time ‘Winery of the Year’ Cantine Due Palme.

The Wine
Angelo Maci of the famed Cantine Due Palme winery is a great ambassador for Italian wine, especially from Puglia. His efforts have just been recognised at home in the form of the prestigious Barocco Award, a coveted title given to those who promote Italian culture overseas – previous winners include Pavarotti, Sophia Loren and Pope Benedict XVI. And Villa Quinziana is one of the most popular reds in Angelo’s portfolio. The key to its popularity lies in the Negroamaro grape, which produces dense, spicy Italian reds. Angelo has access to a prime site of low yielding, very old bush vines for this great wine. It is remarkably versatile and works brilliantly with a range of classic Italian dishes – from rustic pasta to spicy pork casserole.
