We travelled 10,000 miles and sampled 2,000 wines to find the original Patriots Merlot, named in honour of the founding fathers of Chilean independence. It sold out in weeks, proving there’s a legion of fans looking for the smoothest, juiciest and best value Chilean Merlot available. So every year, our Buyer Davy returns to Chile, seeking out a wine worthy of the name The Patriots. And in 2015 he found it on a visit to our old friend Don Cayetano. This year’s example has all the plummy richness Patriots fans have come to expect, with added depth of flavour, spice and savoury character courtesy of the deft hand of the Don’s chief winemaker – and son-in-law – Nicolas Bizzarri.
