The Wine
Plume Palace is the last word in versatility. It’s as refreshing as a white, it pairs with a huge range of dishes, and its vibrant fruit character makes it impossible to resist. The name refers to the opulent house, Excelsior Manor, at the heart of the de Wet family’s 220 hectare estate. It was built by Jacobus de Wet, a top ostrich breeder and great grandfather of current owner Peter. When ostrich feathers were the height of fashion a single plume was worth the equivalent of passage from Cape Town to London. Luckily, Jacobus continued to maintain his vineyards and so was able to concentrate on winemaking when fashion changed and the plume price plummeted. Crafted from hand picked Shiraz, this wine is great with tuna steaks or strawberries.
