The Wine
Puglia is a treasure trove of rich tasting reds that “give you a lot of wine for your money” (Decanter) and offer “undreamed-of character and potential” (Hugh Johnson). Our source for this top of the range special is the fabulous Cantine Due Palme cellar, which has been named ‘Winery of the Year’ for three years in succession by Luca Maroni’s esteemed local wine guide. For Selezione d’Oro, winemaker Angelo Maci – who won a Lifetime Achievement award in 2014 – took Primitivo, the region’s star grape, from old bush vines up to 80 years old, then added a splash of the equally dark and delicious Negroamaro. The wine was aged in French oak to create a dense, full bodied wine of immense complexity and quality. Well suited to meaty pasta dishes.

Silky smooth dark fruits with soft tannins and a hint of creamy vanilla. A very classy wine!
