The Wine
Les Evocelles is a 10 hectare 'climat’ (single vineyard) of prestigious Gevrey-Chambertin. Despite being surrounded by Premier Cru vineyards, Les Evocelles missed out on that particular denomination, perhaps because its high elevation has occasionally been known to affect the ripeness of grapes in particularly cool vintages. There are no concerns along those lines in magnificent 2013. Winemaker of the Year thrice over, Albéric Bichot hand picked the well ripened fruit and treated it to 20 months in oak casks, 40% of which are new. Regular stirring ensures a rich, multi-layered wine of great complexity. Bottled without fining, this Gevrey has generous red fruit with subtle hints of gingerbread and delicate oak. Ideal served with light game.

"A little dollop of sweet oak yet with refreshing acidity gives a wonderfully balanced elegant Gevrey"
