The Wine
The Roquetas can trace the history of their family back to 1199, and their original winery buildings, now over 800 years old, are still standing. They are based in Catalunya, just north of Barcelona, in the foothills of the Pyrenees. Key to the freshness of their wines is the altitude of the vineyards and the corresponding disparity between day and night-time temperatures. This luxurious red was made by talented winemaker Juan Soler at the very modern Roqueta cellar. He chose to add a portion of crunchy Cabernet to the mainly Tempranillo grapes for extra richness and depth. And two years ageing in a mix of French and American oak has mellowed the wine beautifully. Enjoy with roast shoulder of lamb or a Spanish style pork and bean casserole.
