The Wine
Even Rhône aficionados could be fooled into thinking this humble Côtes du Rhône from the southern part of the region might have a more prestigious pedigree. Everything from its pleasing golden colour to its lively stone fruit aromas and rounded complex flavours hint towards a white Châteauneuf du Pape. In fact for many the only giveaway would be the missing Châteauneuf embossing and, of course, the more modest price. Key to its balance and poise were the cooler conditions of the 2014 vintage which gave grapes a longer time to ripen to maturity and develop deep layers of flavour, whilst retaining freshness and aroma. Layered with ripe peach and apricot, with hints of citrus, honey and jasmine, this is a fine partner to chicken or fish.
Even Rhône aficionados could be fooled into thinking this humble Côtes du Rhône
"This could embarrass a white Châteauneuf at double the price! Classic France at its best"
