La Folie de Pierre Sauvignon Blanc 2015
Vin de France

Think wines of the Loire and you probably think Sancerre and Pouilly Fumé, but really outstanding Sauvignon Blanc is grown along this great river, too, in less well known districts. Pierre Sauvion’s La Folie de Pierre is vibrantly lemony and fresh.

The Wine
La Folie de Pierre is a terrific, lemon zipped Sauvignon Blanc – the creation of Pierre Sauvion, fourth generation Loire winemaker in charge at Muscadet’s famous Château du Cléray. It used to be owned by his uncle, Jean-Ernest Sauvion, before it was bought by a négociant business. Having studied oenology in Bordeaux and worked in Australia and California, Pierre is the epitome of the modern, outward looking French winemaker, whose approach shines through in this contemporary style Sauvignon. He sources grapes for La Folie from trusted friends in Touraine, Pays Nantais and Haut Poitou, to strike a balance of complexity, freshness and ripe fruit. Enjoy chilled on its own or try with asparagus risotto or courgette and goat’s cheese frittata.
