Declared Italy’s ‘Winery of the Year’ three times in a row, Farnese is one of the very finest in Abruzzo. Winemaker Filippo Baccalaro’s Montepulciano is velvety smooth, soft and plummy, with few rivals in the value stakes. And terrifically moreish.

The Story Behind the Bottle
From a mere spark of an idea in the early 1990s, three winemaking friends got together and turned Farnese into one of the most successful cellars in Italy. They’ve since gained a long list of glowing reviews from the likes of Robert Parker, Decanter, Wine Spectator, Gambero Rosso and the International Wine Challenge, which in 2004 awarded them the Trophy for ‘Best Italian Red’. And the trio’s success helped make the Montepulciano grape renowned all over the world. We have been buying from them since the beginning, and as a result get first pick of the best vats each vintage, from which they produce some of our most popular Italians – namely our Farnese range. Enjoy this wine’s ripe plum fruit on its own or with pasta or a pork casserole.
