A regular Gold medal winner, this is an appealing, ripe fruit red from the very south of the southern Rhône, not far in fact from Châteauneuf du Pape. Grenache and Syrah from François Moricelly’s family estate, it’s a deliciously easy, juicy wine.

The Wine
Grand Destré – meaning ‘the great press’ in the local dialect – is from François Moricelly’s fourth generation estate in the Principauté d’Orange. This small, little known region lies around the famous city of Orange and just south of Châteauneuf du Pape. And like the terroir of its famous neighbour, its vineyards are strewn with large pebbles. These retain heat from the sun during the day and at night radiate warmth back onto the vines. Perfect for ripening sun-loving Grenache and Syrah. What’s more, this red is from a vintage declared by many as ‘outstanding’. Juicy, fruit filled, with a bite of freshness, so gentler than a Châteauneuf, this herb scented red is ideal with lamb kebabs or Mediterranean roasted vegetables with feta cheese.
