The Wine
An award winning, Merlot rich classic from estate grown grapes and aged in premium new French oak barrels. Right Bank (Saint Emilion style) claret doesn’t get much better than this unless you spend several times the price. You see, not only is La Clarière Laithwaite among the region’s best estates, the Castillon terroir is a continuation of Saint Emilion’s famous côtes. As Wine International explained, “If it wasn't for the (political) line dividing Castillon from Saint Emilion, its wines would be twice the price. The hills are the same, the soil is the same, the exposure is the same.” The 2010 is a top vintage: rich, ripe and smooth with an abundance of plum and tobacco character. Decant and serve with rare roast lamb or beef.
