Named after an Irish owner who met his end at the sharp end of a guillotine in 1792, Château Kirwan now enjoys happier times – as this exquisite 2009 vintage proves. A magisterial Margaux, this collector’s piece is good value for such great pedigree.

The Wine
When the world’s leading wine critic Robert Parker declares 2009 was “unquestionably the greatest Bordeaux vintage I have ever tasted”, then you know it’s something special. Add to that the quality one expects from a Troisième Grand Cru Classé Margaux and you're in for a rare treat indeed. A beautiful 18th century property overlooking the Garonne, Château Kirwan has a long, colourful history. The wine negociant company Schröder and Schÿler acquired it in 1925 and has since worked to restore the château to the greatness it enjoyed when placed at the head of the Médoc Third Growths at the 1855 classification. A classic Cabernet led blend matured in oak barriques, savour this richly complex and textured Margaux with beef Wellington or lamb.
