The Wine
Fancy a taste of what Decanter calls “the greatest vintage Bordeaux has ever produced”? Château de l’Abbaye Reserve is wonderfully rich and ripe, enticingly smooth and remarkably affordable. The château was established by monks in the 11th century and became a refuge for pilgrims en route to Saint Jacques de Compostelle. The de Raignac family moved in in the 15th century and are still there, crafting wines with their centuries of accumulated experience as well as with the most contemporary skills and equipment. Château de l’Abbaye is a blend of Merlot and Cabernet, aged in seasoned French oak for six months. We recommend decanting and serving with breast of duck, red wine casserole, or the classic Sunday roast.
