The Wine
France’s Languedoc Roussillon is something of a mini universe of wines, with so much variety our Buyer Beth is forever making exciting new finds. Apogée comes from the extreme south close to Spain. It’s a blend of Grenache and Syrah with Marselan – a Cabernet Grenache cross created in the 1960s. This is a big red with delectable dark fruit and aromas of garrigue, the wild herb strewn hills of the region. Long, rich and spicy, it’s best suited to beef casserole or cassoulet. This wine comes from fourth generation vineyard owners Corinne and Damien Deneufbourg, who after years of supplying the local co-op saw the light and began turning their superb grapes into minute quantities of terrific wine. Each special bottle is individually numbered.
