The Wine
If you love Rioja, you don’t want to miss this trio of Reservas from revered Finca Valpiedra. As you probably know, for a wine to qualify as a Reserva – Rioja’s second highest quality classification – the wine must spend at least one year in cask and a further two in bottle, prior to release. They must also have come from a great vintage – and each wine of this trio is the fruit of an officially “excellent” five star vintage, namely 2001, 2004 and 2010. This will allow you to taste the development of the wines of this remarkable cellar, which uses hand harvested, hand selected fruit, and new French and US oak casks. You’ll find the 2010 still displays plenty of up front fruit, while the 2004 and 2001 have more evolved, savoury character.
